Nintendo DS Unresponsive Screen

Posted by Philippine Money News at 27.10.08
A year after I got my Nintendo DS, I faced a big big problem. Suddenly, my DS' touchscreen seemed broken. The whole touchscreen was unresponsive to my stylus, my fingers, and the toothpick; even calibrating does not work.

What did I do before that happened?

I left it in my sisters' care for one week. They've been addicted to Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness. That game uses too much of the touchscreen and they're kids under twelve. I did teach them how to properly use and care for it. But they still tend to put more pressure on the screen, and thus making my screen protector's life shorter.

I always change the protector every month, because I play it a lot. But since I have let my sisters use it as well, I then decided that it was time to change the plastic screen protector.

After sticking the new plastic screen protector on the DS screen, and going into the DS menu to calibrate it, nothing was happening with my touches. I restarted and it was still unresponsive. I checked to see if the games start and if the buttons work: good. The LCD color displays were also okay, (except for the dead pixel I got straight from the box.)  I waited a few hours to let it sit, and thought maybe it was just a bug that will go away.

After a few days of trying, nothing worked... I became so worried.. I was already thinking of where to get it fixed... sigh...

I then tried researching online for tips or topics about responsiveness of the touchscreen before going to the repair shop. And through numerous posts and discussions, I found a connection and the solution. Someone said that sometimes the plastic pushes on the screen and as a result the bottom screen becomes unresponsive.

I immediately checked my DS and saw that the screen protector I got was a bit too big and didn't exactly fit the screen. When I replaced it with new ones and made sure I sticked it neatly, my problem was solved!

I couldn't make a thank you note to the guy who shared that. So instead, I'm making this post in case someone encounters the same issue. Cheers!
